Does the organization have roaming employees who need to access the corporate network from several devices? In this case, User CALs make the most economical and administrative sense. Does the organization have multiple users for one device, such as shift workers using a kiosk-style workstation? In this case, Device CALs make the most economical and administrative sense.
Windows Server CALs must be the same version as—or higher than—the server software they are accessing. If you are a reseller, now is a great time to check in with your clients to ensure their CAL needs are filled! If you're a customer, now is a great time to check your server environments to ensure you're in compliance! We encourage you to share your comments on this post.

I would follow Network Overload's advice and get your vendor to help. If your vendor doesn't want to help SHI has some great folks that train and train on MS licensing and can figure it out.
Nice run down Samuel. We are school and not able to go with the Partner route, but nice to know. Thanks for the advice, guys. I'm contacting CDW now, and hopefully they will be able to provide the sort of expert advise that SoftwareOne is unable, or unwilling, to provide. I say the good news is worst case you have to do a true up with microsoft later when you get a SAM audit. You won't get fined or go to jail. Just try to do your best and Microsoft usually understands. Also do your best so when you true up it's not sticker shock! To continue this discussion, please ask a new question.
