Make and exact model of the broadband modem. Make and exact model and hardware version of the router if a separate unit. Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device. Connection type, wired or wireless. Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.
If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms? For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way? If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?
Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here. BT line broadband in the UK can be unreliable - there are many factors, like distance from exchange, number of users sharing the 'local loop', quality of connection to your house, and if you're connecting to an adapter that's not main phone point, the internal house wiring. Ok - so you ignored my whole post. Have you checked the router's connectivity as suggested? You may be right - it may be a 98 problem - but a few points:- Routers do develop faults - one being that they 'drop' their connection for no apparent reason.
If you are saying you only restart the computer and that restores connection, then yes, probably computer problem. If you restart the hub as well, then may be router and in your position I'd certainly restart the hub as well as PC. Having said that - is there anything else not right with the installation?
And you really had no connectivity problems with XP? Is there any pattern to the loss of connection? Please do the network checks I mentioned next time it drops the connection. If winipcfg returns no ip address or one starting , I'd be surprised, but it would mean a problem with PC network card.
