I have the same question 6. Report abuse. Details required :. Cancel Submit. Waseemulla Shariff. Method 1: Check the link mentioned below to use the Network Troubleshooter to rectify any issues with the network. Drivers should get installed automatically after restarting the computer.
Note:- I was also having a problem from earlier in the year with wireless connection from my HP using XP. I reset my system back to an earlier time and re-installed the wireless drivers from my backup disc and got it working. Looks like some of the patches on XP is causing the problem. Hope this is helpful. Good luck on the journey. F— Microsoft. Spot on about the browser service. By golly, you are onto something here! On Windows 7, not yet tried.
But … on Windows XP … the little bugger is right there in the services list. The browser service in Windows is provided for backwards compatibility with client computers that are running earlier versions of Windows. This article describes the basic methods by which a server computer provides browse list functionality to client computers on the network.
For a more detailed explanation of the browser components, see the following documents: Microsoft Windows NT 4. A person does, indeed, have to wonder, perhaps marvel, at why all Microsoft OS need to have billions of instructions of virus detection, virus scanning, spybot detection and removal, etc to stay operational at all.
It does, actually, work quite well by comparison. Does it work as well as a Mac? Yea, actually it does.
Unfortunately, that sounds like a different issue. Try unistalling both the hardware and the software and then reinstalling software installed first, then plug in hardware. Otherwise, you are in the unpleasant world of hardware support. I also disabled several other useless services, but it was not until I left the homegroup that the drops stopped. My other pc on the network is running XP, so I can still share the printer.
Today after my sister came into my bedroom where the router is with her macbook and got full speed connection, I decided to look for a solution for this shitty problem again… and found it…. Therefore the Computer Browser service can be disabled for the vast majority of modern networking scenarios.
Then why do I have to disable said service? It is on the system. BTW, we are talking about home networks, not corporate networks. They get their computer names the old fashioned way. My connection was dropping every 45 minutes or so — although the machine was fine for the first 3 months.
WGHubris thanks for this article. This is complete crap that so many people are having this issue but MS has no fix. I have been trying to fix this for months and every board I have read no one seems to have an answer. You would think that MS would acknowledge that there is a problem. For everyone that thinks they are a wireless expert and wants to throw in there two cents this is not a Wireless Issue. It has everything to do with Windows 7. Thanks again for your help.
WGH, thank you very much for the information on the computer browser service. As soon as I disabled it my problem went away. I would have expected Microsoft to know about this, but they evidently do not. Jerry, Glad to help. I saw a post on the Microsoft forums where someone passed along this solution and its effectiveness.
However, they were dismissed and told that it was wrong. What I do know, is that at a real world what works level, this seems to work for a lot of people. Hi, Your fix seems to have at least given me my internet speed back. I still have one issue that I cannot seem to overcome… maybe you can help? Basically, my network speed drops down to 1. Or, rather, I should say it starts at 54 and drops between different numbers till at 1mbps then stays there and starts to climb back up.
My adapter uses Ralink drivers, which are up to date, and the adapter itself has no issues on Windows XP. Try changing the channel for your wireless or use a wireless network monitor to see what is in use in your area. Next, try moving the computer or router so that they are either closer together, or so that there is one less wall in between them. If so, then the answer is probably location. Disabling the browser also worked for me, no problems at all.
Well one of the people who is an MVP for giving out long answers with no solutions I guess on the site told me I was wrong and that kablooey is no longer on the system. There is no one size fits all fix. I think YOU know what you are talking about and she knows quite a bit about computers but is no way an expert. But if you have any time you might want to correct her. If you have Windows 7, just type Services into the search and it should be one of the options.
It used to be called Server Manager. Select the Computer Browser entry and double-click or right click and then change it from Automatic to Disabled and then click Stop to stop the service now. If it works, great. If not, you can always set it back to Automatic. Thanks for this, solved my issue. Now downloading at 1. We have yet to see if this stays connected, but for now the downloading speed and network connectivity definitely have improved fold.
To all that have been working on this issue has gotten a lot further than Microsoft has at fixing it. So thanks for your hard work. Thank you for your update. If the issue reoccurs, please let us know. I am not saying that what you state is incorrect, what you experience is probably true and frustrating.
On the other hand my experience is totally different, like you I have a mix of XP and 7 machines on the wireless router. Every time my 7 machine returns from hibernation or goes to hibernation there is a likely chance the wireless will drop. This also drops the wireless to our XP based pc's, so there I would assume the cause is indeed the W7 based laptop but it seems to affect the router. I use that same 7 laptop at work on our staff WIFI, guess? It drops the wireless there too but there it only affects my connection and does not drop the others.
Go figure! Same problem as Debula. Cable ethernet connection to the router works fine. My adapter driver is the latest. I've rebooted my router after allowing it to rest. The wireless card works, and at this moment I am using a Public wireless connection that is unsecured. Does anyone know a solution that can be expressed simply and clearly? Can I get my wireless connection back?
