Save the files onto the computer which sees the files, and then do a standard burn to resave them to disk or transfer them to a thumbdrive..

The article link that you posted is meant reading UDF 2. I'm having similar issue to read UDF file format on windows 7 machine. I created the discs myself about a year ago using ImgBurn under Win7. Since then, I had to reinstall Windows following a hardware upgrade.
Now I can't read many of my old discs. I discovered that I could suddenly read my discs again as soon as I reinstalled "ImgBurn", but as soon as I rebooted, the ability to read UDF discs was gone again. Unimaginably frustrating. I searched online and lots of people seem to have this same problem, but no one has a fix. What a pain. Copying the discs to the HDD every time I want to read them is not a long-term solution. And I can't copy commercial BD discs anyway.
At a guess, I would expect MS to address whatever they have done wrong before too long. Try the website of your DVD manufacturer. At worst, if there is no software solution within a couple of months, you might have to consider replacing the drive, at least you can return a new drive if it fails you too.
